Autumn in Houston...

...may be my favorite time of year.
Cuz the sun shines through the windows all afternoon.  I'm gonna go get my nap on.

Too pooped to party...

...my momma and the Big Guy left us all alone all weekend.  Well, there were people here to look after us but I was in full "chicken" mode and stayed under the bed the whole time.  I was very happy to see my momma when they came home.  But it didn't take me long to pass out in the booby blanket.

After Kacy's near death experience...

...we stopped going for regular walks so my momma could keep an eye on her. But now Kacy is taking pills that make her all hopped up and intense like she's had too much coffee and just wants to eat all the time.  I won't even mention all of the accidents because she is drinking like a fish.

So we are back on our regular walk schedule to help Kacy burn off all that energy.  As soon as my momma comes home from the park in the morning, when it's still dark and hardly anyone on the street, we head out on our usual route.

I only speak of this again because this morning we were walking like a well-oiled pack.  Me, in the middle and slightly ahead (you know what that means), flanked on the right by the Big Butt and on the left by Killer Kain.  Walking tall (keep the short jokes to yourself) and proud.

I love my pack.

What is this weenie world...

...coming to? when MY momma takes Kacy to the park with her and leaves me and Kain home alone.  I don't understand.

Another sad day for dogs and the people that love them...

View 2011-01-0...jpg in slide show
R.I.P. Kasha Pritchard

Kasha was a very nice, little old lady that I met a few years ago.  We would go to her house sometimes and I always thought it was pretty cool of her to let me hang around.  The Big Guy has known her since she was a little girl and he says that her humans, Judy and David, are going to be very sad today and for many days to come.  I hope they know that Yorkies are just like Weenies - We love our humans as much as they love us.

I have to ask myself...

...would I eat a bar of soap?

Heck NO.

I only bring this up because Kacy went into the shower and ate a bar of soap.  And then she wasn't looking so good.  And she kept everyone up all night.  And in the morning there was stuff on the grass that smelled like soap.  But she's okay now.  Girls are dumb.

It's been a good morning...

...for naps.  Momma told me at breakfast that we would be getting our nap on as soon as she got cleaned up from rolling around in the park without us.
So while that business was being taken care of I used my time efficiently for wind sprints and biting Kain and Kacy right on the bums.
Then my momma gave me the "load up" manuever and we got to napping.  It was warm and dark and quiet. Perfection.
I am now going to work my magic for afternoon nap time.

KACY is...

...HOME!!!

The Big Guy brought her home last night.  She looks the same but she's really wobbly and her smell makes me a little anxious.  I thought I should give her a little space so she could feel comfortable.  But she's home and that is all I care about because Kain and I were getting a little lonely without her.
Welcome home Big Butt!

It's my bed...

...my momma had to remind me how much I used to like my Rogz bed.  It's been stuck in the corner for years.  What weenie is going to sleep in a dog bed when there are two perfectly acceptable laps and a booby blanket to choose from?
After Kain slept in it the other day my bed got moved into the office.  Usually I sleep curled up on the hard, scratchy rug outside the door but this morning my momma showed me that the bed was right beside her chair and she asked me to start spending more time with her.  So now, I LOVE my bed again.

P.S. Kacy is still in the hospital and the doctor is still very concerned about a lot of stuff so I don't know when I will get to see her.  Come home soon Big Butt.

KACY?????

My momma hasn't told me anything.  I guess we are still waiting to see how Kacy is doing.

Kain likes weenie...

...beds too!  With all of the stuff going on over the past few days Kain got sooooo tired that he was forced to try out my bed.  I don't use it anymore so it's nice to see him curl up in it.  We didn't think he could curl up that small but I guess when you're pooped you gotta make do with what you have.

KACY - TRANSFUSION

The boxer doctor called to say that Kacy had a blood transfusion and is showing good signs of improvement.  Come home soon Big Butt.

KACY IN SERIOUS CONDITION

My Big Butt came home yesterday with a shaved neck, shaved wrists and a shaved tummy.  I was very happy to see her and really happy that she got to have chicken for dinner.  I thought for sure everything was going to be okay.
But this morning my momma had Kacy ready to go as soon as the Big Guy came home and they took her to see her doctor again.  They had to leave her with another doctor for some very special boxer care. I can tell the Big Guy is upset so I'm going to overdo it a bit on the weenie love over the next few days.
I love you Big Guy and I love my Big Butt.  Come home soon.

KACY UPDATE

Now I'm really worried because my momma and the Big Guy took Kacy somewhere this morning and they came back without her.
My momma said they took her to the same special hospital that I've been to a couple times for my back.  She has to stay and take some drugs to make her sleep so they can take some pictures of her brain.
Ohhhh Big Butt.  Come home soon.  Please.

KACY ALERT

My momma and the Big Guy bolted out of bed really early this morning.  Kain went outside but Kacy was laying down on the carpet.  She got sick all over the floor and she even had an accident in the house.  Momma and the Big Guy cleaned her up and kept her calm.  Kain and I both decided to keep our distance but to stay alert in case they needed our help.

Everyone is really worried about the Big Butt.

Geriatric dogs...

...are taking over the house.  I thought Kain would be the only bumbling geezer limping around the house but Kacy has been diagnosed with osteoarthritis.  My human and the Big Guy took her to the doctor last week after a few days of limping around and she came home with special pills to help her with pain.  The doctor also said that she should be getting those big pills in her food, the same as Kain eats, but those pills make Kacy really stinky and she doesn't want to eat them.

Also, some scary news is that Kacy has to go back to the doctor to get a bump removed.  My human says that I have to stay calm because that's the best thing to do so the boxer doctors can figure out what it is.

Love and Loss

My momma gave me an extra hug this morning when she found out one of our favourite Dachshund bloggers Maggie has passed away.  I hope Maggie's human know us wieners love forever.

Tuesday, September 13, 2011

Thanks Big Guy

For those of you that don't know...I get to sleep in the big bed. Right in the middle.  I like to start out on top of the covers but usually after a few minutes I'll get under and snuggle up close to my momma.  But I often get too hot again so I'll bust out and flop on the Big Guy's pillow.  Last night, I avoided all the back and forth nonsense and just curled up on his pillow.  He loves me so much that he didn't even move me.  I will keep this up until a new and bigger bed arrives for me.  I mean, us.  Yeah, I mean us.

I'm still a wiener dog

My momma said I look very handsome in this photo.
What else are you supposed to do on a sunny day?
The Big Guy thinks Kain was just checking to see if I would fit.

Summer snaps...

 Sweet home, Alberta

One of my record attempts for Longest Vent Sniff by a Weenie

After 2200 miles you figure out how to nap in tight spaces

Kacy had a favourite pillow at the lake

PROOF that Kain was in very close proximity to Kacy on a regular basis

Record Holding Wieners

A few people have asked about how many miles I've put on but it is very hard to add up.
It is 2200 miles one way from Houston to Calgary.  So 2 driving road trips plus at least 8 flying trips makes me the most travellingest weenie.  And add all the driving around in Alberta to visit all my fans gives me the bragging rights.  And I only almost died once.  But that was a real close call and my momma may laugh a little bit but I know she's really just happy that I am a tough little wiener.

This road trip I also tried for the longest vent sniff by a weenie.  As soon as we crossed the New Mexico/Colorado border I sniffed for 5 straight miles.

Maybe I should try for the highest altitude by a weenie.  My current record is Logan Pass at 6646 ft or 2026 m.

Also a big shoutout to La Quinta motels for allowing dogs to stay in their rooms for free.  They should get some kind of special award for that. Or change their name to La Canines Welcome.

Another summer trip to Canada over...

....and done.

We put on a lot of miles.  6000+++.  Marked some pretty cool things.  Sniffed some pretty good sniffs.  Lucky for me, my human and the Big Guy had a couple pillows in the SS so I rode all those miles in style.

Buck Lake was great, as usual.  We spent extra time out there this year.  Lots of work to do.  I had to keep Kacy close to home because she doesn't know the routine out there.  And she definitely doesn't know the boundaries.

We visited with family and friends but I am happy to be home in Houston.

Kain and I went to the doctor's office today...

...and my human was talking to another human with....wait for it....a wiener, of course.  There was another old, hairy wiener sitting quietly across the room too.  Plus some other dogs.  In fact, it was a pretty busy place.  I was pretty calm.  Kain on the other hand was close to red lining it.  He would have gladly gone in the front door and straight out the back door.

I got checked out first because I'm the easiest to get on the table.  After the usual and unnecessary embarassment of the you know what in the you know where I got FOUR needles, a bright light in the eyeballs, a huge tube in my ears and a finger down my throat.  But apparently what I hear every day is true, I'm a good little wiener.

Then it was Kain's turn.  Man, he really doesn't like the table, especially the slippery kind with no mat on it.  He would have pooped himself if he hadn't alreay gone 3 times this morning.  It took three people just to keep him steady so he could experience the usual suspects of dog torture.  And same for him, he's still a good ol' boy. Never meaning no harm.

This all in preparation for a road trip we are going on.  I'm the only one my human and the Big Guy have told.  You know how the big dogs get when you start talking about going for a ride.

I hope I don't almost die this time.

Politics and weiners DO NOT MIX

...apparently some doof from New York was claiming he couldn't recognize his owner weiner in a photo.  I bet my momma would recognize her weiner.  Would you recognize your weiner?

Friday, June 3, 2011

Sometimes a weenie...

...has to look out for his momma.  I knew something was wrong with my momma today so I kept close eye on her.  When she got up, I got up.  When she laid down, I laid down.  Only a weenie knows that special place to curl up to keep your human happy and safe.

Sometimes the water bowl...

...seems to far away.  And green tea is good for weenies.  I think.

On the Guadalup...

...eh

Not cool, momma...

...not cool.
After I got busy on a bite on my behind and chewed it raw, my momma and the big guy said I had to wear a cone but they like to come up with at-home solutions.
So after a few prototypes this is a very tricky little contraption they came up with to keep me away from my own butt.
And then to top off the humiliation they laughed at me.
Actually, it didn't really bother me that much.  I can still drink and eat and lay around and bug Kacy and they know how I am smarter than most dogs and have figured out how to back out of this.
Stupid ants!

The Big Guy whacked me...

....last night. COMPLETELY BY ACCIDENT.  But it really hurt my feelings so I went and hid with my momma.  Luckily he's pretty persuasive with the ice cream sandwiches.  And he shares his pillow so graciously.

I really like Canadians...

... especially the lady with the funny squished-nose dog.  She didn't bring the dog with her but she still played with me and let me walk all over her.  I remembered her right away from all of our visits to her house in Calgary.  It was a lot of fun to wake up in the morning and run upstairs and sniff her out.

Visitor from the north country...

...Kain's human from Calgary stopped by for a visit.  Kain was VERY happy to see him.  I was too.  I will always remember the fun times we had when I stayed with him while my human was finding a place for us to live in Houston.

Up early to watch the royal wedding...

...and reminded of my own kingdom.  After all, I am the Earl of Asbury.  It's a pretty sweet gig if you can get it.  Tea and toast served on a tray with my special blanket waiting to curl up in.
I am also supposed to remind you that once upon a time there was another special wiener, the Duke of Covewood.  My human stills talk about his reign of terror.  Not a squeaky toy survived in his palace.

My momma is not only the best weenie momma...

...and the best boxer momma, she's also the best black lab momma.  Cuz last night she heard Kain panting funny and acting a little strange.  They were laying in the closet for a long time.  She even took her pillow and blanket in there so he could lay down with her.  But finally my momma and the Big Guy took Kain in the car somewhere for a couple hours.  Kacy and I were a little worried because it was so late.  When they came home Kain was fine but he smelled like that special wiener hospital I went to.  I guess it's a special black lab hospital as well.  He was really tired today.  My momma says that what happens with ol' gray dogs.

I was a little concerned...

...when I loaded up in the car without Kain and Kacy.  We drove a long time before we got into the hills of Texas.  It seemed familiar to me and yup, we got to the place I've stayed at few times before.  I had to stay in my kennel for a little while each day but by the 3rd day I realized it was safe to let someone know that I wanted out.  Oddly enough, I didn't have to get back into the kennel but stayed with my human and the Big Guy.  We laid around in bed for a long time, then we went for a long drive up and down hills.  We stopped for lunch at a place where even I got to sit at the table.  That was pretty cool until a cat came and laid under my table.
It wasn't a bad long weekend but I was sure tired when we got home.  Kain and Kacy were happy to see us though I think there may have been a little schedule confusion for them.  We really do just like to stick to the routine.

Our morning routines are the best...

4:30 a.m.  - quick trip outside to take care of business. Our bathroom command is "get busy" and it gets a little forceful when we think we should just follow our noses.
6:30 a.m. - my momma and the Big Guy return home smelling really, really good and we get leashed up and taken for a walk around the 'hood.  I, as any self respecting dachshund should do, sniff and check out every hole along the way.
7:00 a.m. - upstairs for morning treats - the really good homebaked cookies my momma makes.
7:30 a.m. - special cereal bowl treat just for me from the Big Guy
8:00 a.m. - back down stairs for our breakfast - we wait patiently for the "go ahead"
8:00:30 a.m. - looking to see what the plan is...
... I like to get a little speedwork in and then it's NAP TIME.

My momma stayed calm...

...during a dog crisis this morning.  We were all still laying around in the bedroom when Kacy got up and went down the hall and fell down.  She was twitching and kicking the wall but my momma was there in a flash to help Kacy stay safe.  Kain and I stayed close because we were a little worried about the Big Butt.  Once she was calm Kacy had a little accident but my momma said that doesn't matter.  We stayed on the floor for a while and then we made sure Kacy could stand up.  Don't worry Big Butt, I'll keep an eye on you.

I can't help it...

...that I am 30 inches long tip to tip
Yes, I can take up an entire chair.  Yes, I think we should get a king-sized bed.  Yes, I like to stretch out.
and Yes, I have big feet.

Get well soon

This has been one of our favourite daily dachshund blogs to read for a few years now so we know all about the troubles Maggie and Joey have gone through.  Our whole family is hoping that Maggie gets to go home soon.
http://dachshundlove.blogspot.com/2011/03/dads-little-princess.html

We don't often chat with other dogs...

...during our morning walks. But this morning my human made a bee-line for the guy that walks the other wiener in the hood.  Except this morning he was walking 2 wieners.  We all had met the 2nd wiener before but she didn't.  So we had to stop and blah blah blah blah blah.  I just sat down and waited why those 2 wieners got a lot of attention.  The new wiener was barking right in Kacy's and Kain's face and they let him.  I suppose I should be jealous but technically all of us wieners are related somehow.  Give a weenie a break, right?
The man said the new wiener wasn't treated very nice before he got him.  Little weenie has some scars on his chest and back.   But let me tell ya, he sure is a shiny little wiener.  And the other wiener girl has allergies so she was happy just to get scratched.

Tuesday, March 22, 2011

I pity the fool...

...(or at least the neighbors cleaning lady) who dares to step into our 'hood.  You think I'm joking about the black dog gang?!? Sure, Kacy isn't black but she's a big girl that doesn't mess around.  And we all know Kain's capabilities in the "mean as hell" department.

Thursday, March 17, 2011

We spend a lot of time together...

...as a pack.  Kain seems to be happier now that he realizes he is a dog and can have dog friends.  I spend extra time each day with him so he knows this is the best home for dogs. I really like playing with him now without the fear of a sudden temper tantrum.  I think he might remember how much fun we used to have when I was a little boy and we would play Chase the Fast Little Wiener.  My human makes us all hang out together to help us feel good.  She will trim our nails, which none of us like.  But we let her because she gives a great dog massage.  She will brush us to keep us shiny.  She will get the vacuum out to clean up our hair and I will remind her by sitting politely in front of the vacuum that she should get busy vacuuming us instead of the carpet.  She makes me so happy when she asks "Who wants some?"  I guess she makes all of us happy because we all line up and wait our turn.

I almost forgot to tell you that I had...

...a breakthrough.
We had a visitor to the house the other night and he looked so much like the Big Guy (nope it wasn't Big Guys brother - he still scares me).
Tall.
Bald.
Happy.
So even though I was on high alert my momma told me she was very impressed with my inquisitive peeks and wagging tail.
Maybe everyone who comes to visit should just shave their head.  Help a weenie out.

Monday, March 7, 2011

Weenies, wieners, dachshunds, hot dogs...

...lot of names for us and lots of blogs by us.  My human keeps showing me some pretty awesome ones.  We like to see them all.

Friday, February 18, 2011

My human says that I am the...

...smartest wiener.  Smarter than boxers.  Smarter than labs.  That's because I figured out after only 2 lessons that when the water bowl is empty and I'm thirsty, all I have to do is ring the bell and Voila! someone comes along and fills the bowl for me.

Monday, February 14, 2011

I just heard that the new Valentine's Day icon...

...is going to be a WIENER.  Cupid is old news. Everyone knows that if you have a weenie running the place you will have lots and lots of love.
I love chicken.
I love the Big Butt.
I love Killer Kain.
I love the Big Guy.
But I really, really, really love my momma.  (and the cookies she bakes for us)

Big walks...

...equal tired wieners and boxers and labs.

The Big Guy thinks it is awesome that my big diggers are multi-taskers.  I was the swimmingest wiener.
Kacy wasn't so thrilled with the pond.
Yup, the big bro lookin' out for me again.  Right?

Thursday, February 3, 2011

It's really cold here in Houston...

...and I'm not sure I like it.  The Big Guy says I should be okay with it, being a Canadian wiener and all.  But he doesn't know that my human shoveled the snow off the grass for me when I was a little boy.

Reminds me of the big parks back home in Calgary

We woke up, had some breakfast and then hit the road.  We all went to a big park on the edge of town.  There was a special fenced area for dogs but you know what my human thinks of that.  Instead we stopped at a great spot down the road with a huge lake and miles and miles and miles of places to run and sniff.  And there was no one else there.  My human and The Big Guy kept a close eye on me.  They said because there was no fence you just never know what could jump out of the bushes and take a wiener away.  I said "AS IF.  I'm a wiener.  Let 'em try."  Then we came around a corner and there was a huge pond perfect for swimming wieners and wading black labs and tiptoeing boxers.  We all got wet chasing the tennis balls. It's a good thing we have a water dog living with us now because he can go out and get those balls that we don't want to.  But the best part of the adventure was that we didn't have to get bathed when we got home.

Whew!

Big sigh! after a BIG kerfuffle last night at the door when my human and The Big Guy came home.  We always get so excited, barking and howling and jumping up and down and all of a sudden Kain didn't like Kacy being in his personal space so he snapped and then she really snapped.  All of a sudden she was on his back and chomping on his neck and there was a lot of growling and snarling and I just bolted.  But she is such a sweet girl that as soon as everything calmed down Kacy went over and wanted to give Kain a makeup kiss.   Maybe he'll learn not to mess with big girls!  I'm happy to say that this morning all is quiet on the southeastern Texas front.

My human...

...said she loves me the best.  And not to tell anyone. WOO-OOF!

Hanging with the human...

...she and The Big Guy have been getting up really early and leaving the house every morning.  They come back pretty smelly but we get to do all the usual stuff. Walk, treats, breakfast and then we get fed.  And it seems that my momma and I are back on the nappin' schedule.  And The Big Guy wonders why I don't really listen to him.
It's been a good new year so far.
Also my human says that I may have to trade in my fall jacket for my winter jacket in a couple days.  I told her that we should just nap already.
